GO Centers aspire to help students see pathways to careers and college. They are physical spaces in schools and other locations, equipped with computers and overseen by school staff. Students visit the Go Centers and research career opportunities, college options, and financial aid. Students are assisted by mentors from higher education institutions and from the community. Private Scholarships "Top Ten" Do's and Don'ts Since 2004, the Fort Worth Chamber has employed staff to provide oversight and technical assistance to GO Centers which now exist in all 13 of the traditional high schools and three alternative campuses in the Fort Worth ISD. Since 2006, more than 25,000 students have utilized the FWISD GO Centers, averaging over 6400 students annually. We have also helped other ISDs in and around Tarrant County, including Arlington, Castleberry, Crowley, Decatur, Denton, Eagle Mountain/Saginaw, Gainesville, Lake Worth, Little Elm and Mansfield. During 2007-2008, Chamber staff conducted informational meetings in the GO Centers to bring in leaders from many stakeholder groups and to encourage them to get involved in assisting students. More than 250 community members were reached in a total of 18 meetings. Ripple effects from these 18 meetings are still being seen, the primary one being the growth of new GO Centers in community and faith-based settings. The Community GO Center at the Stop Six Church of Christ, established in January 2008, was the first faith-based GO Center in Texas. Five other Community Go Centers have since been established, with several others in process. For more information on GO Center activities, contact: Glenn Spoons
