Revved up to go: Wendy and Melissa, who are da bombs at Children's Speedway Charities, went round and round and round the track with Eddie G-Man and raced off with two tickets and a coveted VIP parking pass to the two races this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Whether you're a trucker or an Indy fan, they've got you covered with a two-fer to Friday night's Sam's Town 400K NASCAR Craftsman or a two-fer to Saturday's Bombadier Learjet Indy 550.
Looking for a foursome: Mr. B was checking the Chamber's events calendar and noticed he wasn't listed as the featured speaker for the Chamber's 126th Annual Meeting June 12 at the Renaissance Worthington. Probably just an oversight because his speech is ready and right. Which is where Mr. B's luncheon table is, too - as far along the right-side wall as possible. In fact, Chamberite Lydia (Convention) Hall is negotiating for his table to be in the lobby. If you've got binoculars and good hearing, you could join the half table. General Peter Pace is the featured speaker and Lockheed Martin will receive the Spirit of Enterprise award.
Looking for a tensome: If you haven't been to the Renaissance Worthington lately, you probably haven't partaken in the great gorging opportunities Robert and Robbie are providing, such as Kalamatas, Vidalia's and Bar Wired, which is an Internet café and coffeehouse featuring Starbucks and unbelievable (and unfortunately non-dietetic) pastries. You and nine friends can take a break at Bar Wired and maybe we can urge son NoBGood, who got a C- in Piano 101 at OU last semester, to serenade your group. Food and beverage manager Robbie Tawil, who's providing the sweets escape, describes himself as a "Lebanese Bubba."

Wash away your worries: With the price of gas, you'd think the free car wash would be on its way back as some sort of "well, it's not our fault." But then the environmentalists would be complaining about the wasted water. Cityview Car Wash and Oil Change says what the heck, "Live Free" - doesn't New Hampshire say that, too? - and there's no better way to do that than to win this $25 gift card. It's good toward a wash, gas, detail or oil change, and ain't that a gas!
Take this job and love it: Wouldn't it be too cool if your administrative assistant (or you, the AA) could have all this pre-summer fun on a day when he/she/you are supposed to be working? OMG, playing hooky and still getting all the work accomplished. ARK Professional Services can make that happen! It is offering a RECEPTIONIST FOR A DAY to answer phones, maybe do some filing, and tell a few corny jokes as the gathering place for employees. This will be a job well done!
All the world's a … Congrats to Teneo Linguistics, Turbomeca USA and ATC Logistics & Electronics for their Mayor's Global Awards category honors. Teneo, which translates all of the world's 3,136 languages, is a double dipper, having already won a 2008 Chamber Small Business of the Year category. BNSF Railway received the Kenneth Barr International Flagship Award.
Yakkity yak: Let's Talk Fort Worth, the city's giant town hall gathering Sept. 25, kicks off this week with the first of 11 area meetings. For info, go to www.LetsTalkFortWorth.org.
Another round for everyone: Too many opportunities for potshots here, but let it be known: Whereas executive coach Martha Newman of Gain Your Goals delivered a live webcast for the State Bar of Texas, and whereas attorneys from all over the state tuned in for her presentation called Management Lessons Learned from the Texas Lawyers Creed, we solemnly do swear to offer one hour of continuing ed credit.

The Name Game: While making a name for his business, illustrator/designer/marketer Dale Berkebile has been Dale Berkebile Illustration & Design (mouthful), DBID (huh?) and now Brandw!se.
Did you know? Remodeling of a commercial building has a fancy new name: Adaptive re-use.
Did you see? Panasonic used Sumo wrestling to promote its new 150-inch TV screen. Hey, bigger is better, but that wasn't an image you want to remember.
Bet your day was better! A recent (edited) Jeer in the Star-Telegram: "To dog owners who don't pick up after their animals. I slipped in poo, ruined my sneakers, broke my ankle, incurred medical expenses and smelled like dog poo the rest of the day."
Is this the future: If gas prices continue to escalate, this is what a Texas truck and trailer might look like, courtesy of Kevin Jackson at Companion Trailers.

Get me rewrite: Rick Larson, AIG Advisor to the stars, majored in journalism at SMU, but never has written. (Mr. B majored in journalism and many would say he never has written.) Rick says he would love to see someone (why not Rick?) write a script for a documentary about the 294 children killed in the 1937 New London School methane gas explosion.
News bulletin: Idol champ David Archuleta is idled from this summer's tour. His voice - finally - is changing.

Business news: Long-time Arlington opine-r O.K. Carter didn't stay retired long. He debuted this week with a weekly column for the Fort Worth Business Press on Arlington and Mansfield happenings. And the Star-Telegram will debut a 10,000 mailed business digest to select corporate leaders beginning June 26. It will have editorial, but is produced by the special sections department.
It's in the mail: Boss Miserly Mistress says she'll stamp her signature on a raise to 42 cents for Mr. B if he'll work forever.
Ya gotta have Hope: Fort Worth Club's host with the most, Hope Kahan, is heading up the Lena Pope Home Young Professional Advocates for 2008-09. Wonder if you get a FW Club membership by joining the YPAs?
Give ‘til it hurts: If anybody sees new members Tom Maher of The Luxury of Leather (easy now, it's furniture) or DeWitt Muse of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, tell them that Mr. B and Newz-E-Letter could be even better with their contributions to prize giveaways.
Decisive: Hal Dodd of Paychex, who resigned his leadership of a Leads Group that meets at Reata, reconsidered and has decided to stay on the throne.
Turnabout is fair play: Staff at Presbyterian Night Shelter, many of them former clients, spent nine hours in a retreat to present a strategic plan to board members. Usually, it's the other way around. PNS also has established monthly, all-client town hall meetings and a Residents Council.
The kids are alright: Cantey Hanger attorney Michael Appleman, the first prez of VisionFW, is turning 40. Mom Louise Appleman, the youthful Tarrant County College trustee, says she's not that old and cracks that Michael must have been from husband Gordon's first marriage. Attorneys run in the family; Gordon is with Thompson & Knight and his father was an attorney, too.
