April 2, 2025
After a 35-year career as one of the preeminent figures in the automotive finance industry, Daniel E. Berce, President and Chief Executive Officer of GM Financial, announced his plans to retire at the end of April. Dan has served in the CEO role for more than 20 years with GM Financial and with its legacy business, AmeriCredit. His retirement comes after a period of sustained growth for the business, which laid the foundation to ensure its success in the coming years.
Dan first joined AmeriCredit in 1990, serving as Chief Financial Officer until 2003, when he became president and then assumed the role of CEO in 2005. In 2010, Dan oversaw the acquisition of AmeriCredit by General Motors to start a new company: GM Financial.
Since 2010, GM Financial has grown from 3,000 total employees to nearly 9,000 employees worldwide. During the same time frame, GM Financial’s revenue has grown from $1.4 billion to $15.9 billion and total assets grew from $10 billion to $141 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024.
GM Financial, headquartered in Fort Worth, is the city’s largest downtown employer with 1,300 employees at Burnett Plaza and more than 4,700 employees across North Texas.
The company is known for its team member first culture, which was largely created and nurtured by Dan and his Executive Team in the AmeriCredit days and sustained over the course of more than three decades.
In addition to growing GM Financial, Dan has dedicated his time to improving and growing Fort Worth. He has served in numerous civic and community roles to include Chair and Trustee for Lena Pope, Chair for Cook Children’s Healthcare System, Chair for Catholic Charities USA, Board Member for the United Way of Tarrant County and President of both the Fort Worth Club and the Ridglea Country Club.
Coincidentally, GM Financial is also celebrating 37 years as a member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. During that time, Dan has served in multiple volunteer leadership roles including Chairman of the Board, 2011-2012, and was the recipient of the Susan Halsey Executive Leadership Award in 2023.
“Through tireless dedication and visionary leadership, Dan Berce has not only propelled GM Financial to new heights, becoming a cornerstone of our local economy, but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and giving back that strengthens our community. His commitment to both business success and civic engagement exemplifies the profound impact one individual can have on the thriving future of an entire region,” stated Steve Montgomery, President & CEO of the Fort Worth Chamber.
Under Dan’s leadership, GM Financial was awarded the Spirit of Enterprise Award in 2016 from the Fort Worth Chamber. Furthering Dan’s commitment to the city, GM Financial also accepted the role of lead sponsor of the Parade of Lights, helping to continue a beloved tradition for the greater Fort Worth community.
