The Fort Worth Chamber, along with 58 business and economic development partners from across the state, joined a letter to Texas legislators in supporting a consistent funding stream to address Texas’ water needs. To avoid a crisis in the future, Texas must take action now to ensure the reliability of water for residents and businesses.
In the State of the State address, Governor Abbott declared a “generational investment in water” as an emergency item for the 89th legislative session. In the 88th legislative session, lawmakers created the Texas Water Fund and in 2023, voters approved the dedication of $1 billion to this fund. This year, legislators are seeking to make this continuous investment permanent by enacting a constitutional amendment. Lawmakers are also seeking to make an additional investment for various supply and infrastructure projects.
In Fort Worth, there are approximately 800 miles of aging or deteriorating water pipelines. Improving and strengthening this infrastructure is a key driver in the ability to live and do business in Fort Worth and contributes to the prosperity of economic growth in Fort Worth.
