The Fort Worth Chamber’s investors council was joined by Mayor Mattie Parker on Tuesday for an update on the City of Fort Worth’s new greenspace initiative: Good Natured. Greenspace can be defined as any of the following features:
Mayor Parker argued Fort Worth needs additional greenspace to meet the demands of the city’s record growth, such as protecting water quality, enhancing flood protection, and promoting health through recreational opportunities. The City’s goal is to grow and improve Fort Worth’s park system – which currently consists of nearly 300 parks and recreational areas – with support from the Tarrant Regional Water District, a newly formed 501(c)(3) organization, plus new and existing stakeholders. The desired impacts are to strengthen environmental conservation efforts while attracting financial support from the private sector and others to ensure long-term economic competitiveness.
Quick Facts: Fort Worth ranks 88th nationally in the Trust for Public Land’s “Park Score”, behind other large Texas cities such as Austin (41st), Dallas (43rd), San Antonio (57th), Corpus Christi (69th), Houston (71st), Arlington (75th).
