Southeast Connector Project Update: Progress Continues Across South and East Fort Worth

June 18, 2026

The Fort Worth Chamber's East Area Board received an update this week on the Southeast Connector project, with South Point Constructors and TxDOT sharing the latest progress across this massive regional undertaking. Nick Andryshak of South Point Constructors and Prapti Sharma of TxDOT walked board members through current construction activity, recent milestones, and what businesses can expect in the months ahead.

The project spans I-820 from Brentwood Stair Road to I-20, I-20 from Forest Hill Drive to Little Road in Arlington, and US-287 from Village Creek Road to Sublett Road—touching Fort Worth, Arlington, Forest Hill, and Kennedale. In total, the work includes 61 bridges and roughly 295 lane miles, with three interchanges being fully rebuilt to eliminate left-side exit and merge movements that have long been a safety concern. Substantial completion remains on track for February 2028.

Segment Updates

  • Southbound frontage road (Rosedale–Ramey): drainage work largely complete; regrading, paving, and striping expected this summer.
  • Northbound Rosedale–Lancaster connection: reopened in the past few weeks.
  • Southbound Lancaster–Rosedale: now closed for rebuild, targeted for early fall. TxDOT is also working to open a direct southbound exit from I-820 to Rosedale St. within the next month—ahead of the collector road—to relieve traffic sooner than the fall timeline.
  • Lancaster–Meadowbrook / Craig St.: significant elevation changes driving several city street closures; frontage road and surrounding streets are expected to open this fall. Craig Street Bridge is being rebuilt (not abandoned) and will open in tandem.
  • Southbound frontage road (Brentwood Stair–Lancaster): work area kept separated by barrier to allow continuous work; paving expected to begin late this summer/early fall.

Recent Milestones

  • I-20/820 interchange ramps (both directions) reconfigured from left-side to right-side exit/entry movements, improving safety and reducing weaving.

Upcoming Milestones

  • Sun Valley Dr. Bridge over I-820 — targeted to open later this summer.
  • Anglin Drive Bridge (Forest Hill) — targeted to open later this summer.
  • Lancaster Avenue Bridge — targeted for early fall.
  • Craig Street Bridge—targeted for fall, alongside surrounding frontage road and city street openings.

One detail worth noting for daily commuters: mapping apps don't always reflect real-time conditions. Waze tends to update fastest since TxDOT and South Point work directly with Waze's design team, while Google Maps and Apple Maps rely on a confidence-level threshold that can delay updates. Businesses relying on these apps for routing or delivery logistics should keep that lag in mind.

We encourage members to stay engaged:

  • Opt-in for real-time alerts—sign up for weekly email and instant text alerts on lane closures, detours, and emergencies.
  • Email: contactus@southeastconnector.com
  • SMS Alerts: Text "SEC" to (817) 518-7555
  • Hotline: 844-828-2870
  • Share how the project is affecting your business with the Chamber or your Area Board so we can continue elevating real-time feedback to TxDOT and South Point.

This is business advocacy in action—creating a direct line between the businesses navigating this project daily and the teams building it, so that as the Southeast Connector moves toward completion, Fort Worth's business community stays informed every step of the way.
